Banners, Chaplains & Commissions

A few months ago JJ over at "How to lose at 40k" put up an offer, make him a banner for his website and he would paint up a mini in trade. After a few emails back and forth I managed to meet his expectations and create a banner design he was happy with. For my mini I asked for a single Death Company Chaplain is exchange. I have been following JJ and his progress over the last year when he started his blog and I thought that I would at least challenge him a bit with the project. Here is the result:

I am putting this gun into a Death Company squad which will all have custom bases, so I let him know that a plain base was fine.

I specifically wanted a Forgeworld type combi-flamer, scratch built (to challenge him a bit). Not only did he get that part perfectly, he free handed the blood angel symbol on the shoulder.

On the scroll work everything is done with minute attention to detail and all the test runs in clear lines.

All the highlights are thin and well done, this is truly an excellent addition to my budding Death Company and I greatly appreciate all the work that went into it. An excellent trade for my work on his banners, and something that a great many people could have taken advantage of!

Now I am not normally one to pimp for other people but JJ has treated me right, and the photo speak for themselves. I would encourage anyone who might be interested in getting some painting done to go over and check out his rates, hes quite reasonable in comparison to some of the other services out there and the quality is just as good (in my ever so humble opinion). Community: The Astronomican Forums

The Astronomican is a Warhammer Community that I purchased a few months ago after years of being everything from a member to an administrator. The former owner also runs a Wargaming store and the forums unfortunately took a back seat to his real world job that pays his real world bills (funny how that works). First and foremost the Astronomican is a Wargaming Community, with around 50 'active members' it is a very close knit community that lacks some of the 'anonymity' that comes on larger forums, generally everyone knows everyone.

Community: The Astro Mag

One of my larger time commitments to the hobby is tending to the Astro Mag, a 40k e-zine/fanzine released quarterly (well, we give it the old college try).  You have your hobby articles (this is the bulk of the content), fiction, artwork, opinions, tactics and battle reports.  It is, for all intents and purposes, the poor man's White Dwarf.

Community: Alacrity Raffle

Everyonce in awhile something truely unique pops up on the radar, and this would fit the criteria. b.smoove over at A Gentlemen's Ones is holding a raffle for his modular terrain board.  Now im not normally one to condone advertising like this in the normally eurdite halls of my blog but b.smoove seems to be a pretty good guy who is trying to put something back into the community rather than just auctioning it off on ebay. Of course this could all be a sinister plan on his part to cover the expansion costs of his secret collection of hand carved merry-go-round horsies with pink bows - but I doubt it.

The table is huge and apparently fills a 5 x 7 foot table with all the rooms, corridors and passageways included. For $10 bucks you get a ticket in the raffle and he covers the shipping to drop it at your door. Any raffle tickets much be purchased by this Sunday, March 13th, by midnight and the raffle will be held on Tuesday. Any money left over will be used in the construction of tables for Adepticon. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
